Rainbow Village
Among this colorful settlement resides former soldier Huang Yung-Fu, who solely hand-painted the entire property, even the stepping stones! After the nationalist Kuomintang (KMT) army was defeated in 1949, many of the soldiers fled to Taiwan to live in temporary military villages. After the villages became run down, Huang painted his home to prevent the government from destroying it. Since then, it has become a popular tourist attraction in Taichung. If you’re lucky, you can even meet the artist himself! No admission fee, but consider buying some souvenirs from his store to support his incredible work.
